Stoughton Power Plant
Adaptive Re-use

UW Madison students looked to repurpose the historic Hydro Power Plant Station into a community space. Stoughton Power Plant No. 1, built in 1911, is the oldest remaining element of the municipality’s utility system and generated electricity until 2007, powered by a dam upstream. The adaptive reuse of this building aims to preserve Stoughton’s history, boost the local economy, and create a recreational center for residents. This initiative is part of the broader Yahara Riverfront renovation project, as the building sits on the banks of the Yahara River. Additionally, a parking lot located 30 feet east of the building is included in the project.
